Ed O'Loughlin

Edward O’Loughlin is an environmental microbiologist/environmental chemist and has been studying biogeochemical processes controlling the cycling of major/minor elements and the fate and transport of contaminants in aquatic and terrestrial systems for 29 years, the last 16 of which have been with the Biogeochemical Processes Group in the Biosciences Division at Argonne. Ed’s current research examines the effects of microbial transformations of carbon, iron, and sulfur on the fate and transport of organic and inorganic contaminants in redox dynamic environments. He is also focused on identifying how coupled biotic (microbial)/abiotic (geochemical) processes control the emission of greenhouse gasses (CH4, CO2, and N2O) from aquatic and terrestrial environments.
