Dr. Pfister is a marine ecologist who has worked over a range of taxa to understand the dynamics of populations and how species interact. Her work has focused on the rocky shores of the US west coast where her interests are currently focused on the feedbacks among all biota and the nitrogen and carbon cycles. She is particularly interested in the microbes that are associated with larger marine species and how interactions among these species have system-level effects. Her research is also addressing global change in the ocean, including changes to seawater carbon chemistry.
